The Elms dates back to the 16th century. We believe the first section of the timber frame was constructed around 1550; other sections were added later. The actual construction was timber frame with wattle and daub infilled panels.
The house was extended in the 18th/19th century with a large brick built extension. Two very large chimney stacks were added and a bread oven was built.
The garden was also given a walled kitchen garden and the whole house would have been a hive of activity centring around the main business of The Elms Farm.
